key vs cer

AdamCox

I have a quick question, that may have already been covered (but haven't found it yet)

under the security tab there is:
partner certificate(encryption)
partner certificate(signature)

I've loaded my certs into into the keystore.

There is a choice between a key and a card (both with the same name) Which one goes where?

Adam, The key is only

Adam,

The key is only available for the localstation, you have only certificates from your partners.
The key is used to sign the message. The certificate (public key) of your partner is used to encrypt messages for him.

The idea is: You should be the only one to sign your messages but everybody should be able to encrypt messages for you.

Adam,

Adam,

it's not possible to have the private key of your trading partner in productive environment.
For a good article on the public key encryption please have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_key

I guess I was confused

I guess I was confused between the key icon and the Rolodex card icon in the drop down. And what the difference is between them. I'll read over the this wiki. Thanks
