Mixed environment: VAN and Direct trading partners

bobfox

hi,

I've read about this software in the EDI-L usergroup.

I need to be able to communicate with trading partners either via a VAN or directly, depending on the partner.

Can I do this with Mec-AS2 ?

regards, Robert

Robert, You could connect

Robert,

You could connect directly to a trading partner with m-e-c as2 using the AS2 protocol.
But - to be honest - I have no idea on how you connect to a VAN. In my understanding this is a technology that is not used or common outside of US, does there exist any RFC or could you give me more technical details about it?

Hi, I'm in Austria, the VAN

Hi,

I'm in Austria, the VAN is http://www.exite.at

Infos about eXite are here (in English):
http://www.exite-info.at/eindex.htm

For use with their proprietary protocol they sell the Java software eXite_link.
I don't want to use it, because it cannot connect to trading partners directly.

But eXite also supports AS2, as you can read here (in English):

http://www.exite-info.at/edocuments/EXITE_GEN_INFO.pdf

This is why I asked here, because it seems that via AS2 I could do both.

Robert, thank you for the

Robert,

thank you for the information. I had a look at the document and it seems that you could connect to the VAN via FTP, SSL and AS2 (as far as I understood).
That means that you could connect to you VAN via m-e-c as2 and direct to your trading partners via m-e-c as2, but I might missunderstand this. Have you aready contacted the VAN provider on this issue?

Heller
